Cyclo-cross races are normally marked out in parks and / or urban areas over several different ground surfaces. Such as, grass, paths, concrete and gravel. They often include short sections or the odd obstacles that require riders to carry or push their bike. The goal is to do as many laps of the racecourse as possible within the allotted time of the rider’s age group. Cyclo-cross courses range from 500m to a few km. If you hear the bell ringing the lead rider is on their last lap. All lap counting stops once the lead rider finishes their next bell lap.
